Luncheon Vulture is a greedy vulture who is always hungry and after something to eat. In the first story, this results in his being thrown out of the family nest by Mum Vulture. He decamps to hanging around the 'School of Cookery' ('The Cookery College' in subsequent issues), an establishment run by a fish called Fanny Haddock and aided by a horse by the name of Galloping Gourmet, from where Luncheon uses all manner of tricks to steal food.

Most times (17) he is successful, but on fourteen occasions he is thwarted. In issue no. 53 the honours are even as Luncheon is rewarded with food for helping to foil a robbery at the Cookery College.

Although Fanny Haddock appears in every story, Galloping Gourmet is missing in issue nos. 31, 32, 37, 39, 40, 41, 48, 50, 54 and 56.

At some point Luncheon set up home inside a tree overlooking the 'School of Cookery' and named his abode 'Vulture Villa'. It can be seen in issue nos. 41, 42, 45, 48, 49, 54, 55 and 56.

The ubiquitous Plug has cameo appearances in issue nos. 41, 50 and 55.
